Stillbirth storyline for BBC One’s EastEnders
There’s tragedy on the horizon for EastEnders’ Shabnam Masood (Rakhee Thakrar) and Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) as their baby is born stillborn in an upcoming storyline.
The BBC One soap has been working closely with Sands, the stillbirth & neonatal death charity, on an emotional storyline which will follow the couple as they suffer the loss of their baby and deal with the devastating effects this has on their lives.
Erica Stewart, the charity’s bereavement manager said: “Sadly, stillbirth is not rare, it’s a devastating tragedy that affects thousands of people every year, from all walks of life. The death of a baby is rarely talked about and we hope that with a TV drama as popular as EastEnders covering this it will help to lift the taboo, and raise awareness.
“We worked closely with the writers and actors on this storyline. Everyone involved has approached it with incredible sensitivity.”
“Our hope is that we can encourage people to talk about their experiences and their babies that have died.” – Rakhee Thakrar
