Jeremy Vine has become the first celebrity confirmed for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The journalist, author and presenter confirmed his participation this morning (10 August) during a live appearance on BBC Radio 2’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show.

“How could I say no to the biggest show in TV? Yes, yes, yes and yes again to the sequins and the Samba! Now I just need to find some dancing shoes and identify my left foot. I am doing it for my two young daughters who jumped behind the sofa when I told them! It seems Dad on Strictly is more scary than Doctor Who!” – Jeremy Vine

50 year old current affairs supremo Jeremy is the host of his self-titled BBC Radio 2 programme featuring news, views and interviews with live guests and popular music every weekday. Jeremy also presides over BBC One’s Points of View on Sundays and BBC Two’s long-running quiz show Eggheads.

A seasoned broadcaster, Jeremy has also been one of the presenters for the BBC’s election coverage since 2006, including overseeing the famous Swingometer. Jeremy was also named Speech Broadcaster of the Year at the Sony Awards in 2005 and 2011.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One next month and will see Vine take on other celebrities for the coveted glitterball trophy.
