Channel 5 look at the life of Whitney Houston
Channel 5 is to air a documentary drama looking at the life of late singer Whitney Houston, focusing mainly on her years with Bobby Brown.
The seminal two hour drama-doc exploring the extraordinary story of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown’s relationship from 1990 through to her death in 2012 will air tonight on the network. Through first hand testimony, analysis and comment the film tries to make sense of their successes and excesses.
Channel 5 begin by looking at the couple’s first ten years together, including their meeting, marriage and the birth of their only child, Bobbi Kristina. As Whitney’s star is in the ascendancy and Bobby’s in the descendant, we reveal how the pressures of fame coupled with their own issues and addictive behaviour sew the seeds of destruction for their marriage and each other. Which one of them was really responsible for their downfall – was it Whitney, Bobby or both of them?
The last 15 years saw the final years of their marriage through to divorce and finally Whitney’s untimely death, and the recent, very sad death of her daughter Bobbi Kristina. In 2000 with their addictions to a variety of illegal and highly dangerous drugs at a high, we explore the very public fall from grace of this couple – from domestic assault charges brought against Bobby, to Whitney being fired from the Oscars. Toward the end of her life, free from her relationship with Bobby, it seems as if Whitney may well recover and make a comeback, but this proves to be short-lived, and ends in tragedy.
