More classic BBC comedies get DVD releases

An Actor’s Life for Me, Hugh and I and  Get Well Soon are to be released on DVD next month. The BBC comedy classics are being released by Simply Media.

Lollipop Loves Mr Mole - ATV Network - Hugh LLoyd

Its back to the 1960s for the first outing with Hugh and I starring Hugh Lloyd (Pictured on ATV’s Lollipop Loves Mr Mole) and Terry Scott. The DVD contains episodes from the first two series, which start in 1962. The series was written by John Chapman who also penned Happy Ever After, and Hugh and I ultimately ran for 69 episodes over several years.

The series also stars future Are You Being Served? actress Mollie Sugden and the storyline follows Terry and Hugh in their fictional lives as mates who want to be rich and successful – just without putting any hard work or effort into the process. Terry lives with his mother in Tooting with Hugh as his lodger. The episodes follow the pair as they come up with plans and schemes to enhance their lifestyle. Hugh and I will be released on the 7th September, RRP £29.99.

Also released on September 7th is An Actor’s Life For Me starring John Gordon Sinclair, Victor Spinetti and Gina McKee. Based on a BBC Radio 4 series the television version hit BBC One screens in 1991. Here the DVD contains the complete series.

Sinclair plays a struggling actor who aims to hit ‘the big time’ however with ideas way above his ability he never quite manages to make the grade. RRP: £19.99

Finally, period sitcom Get Well Soon arrives on DVD on September 21st. From the writers behind Steptoe and Son and Hancock’s Half Hour – Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, take us back to 1947 and a Tuberculosis Sanatorium.

The cast includes former EastEnders icon Anita Dobson and Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville. RRP: £19.99.
