Joe McElderry, the winner of the X Factor last year, has reportedly had hit Twitter account hacked with the prankers posting messages that the singer is gay. McElderry won the 2009 competition beating the likes of Olly Murs and Stacey Solomon. Now it’s been revealed that his account on Twitter was hacked with messages being tweeted that the star had come out and admitted he was gay. McElderry was the subject of rumours regarding his sexuality during the competition but told later The Sun newspaper he was straight.
Although Joe McElderry won last year’s competition he didn’t win the prestigious prestigious Number One Christmas Slot. This was due to a successful campaign on Facebook which saw Rage Against The Machine win the race instead. Fans on Facebook launched the campaign against the singer because they were annoyed with the competition dominating the charts every Christmas.
The rise of social networking sites has seen a number of fake accounts on Facebook and Twitter spring up with prankers pretending to be celebrities/soap stars. Although there are some genuine accounts on both sites the number of fake accounts probably far outstrips the real ones.
