American remake for Prime Suspect

nbcCritically acclaimed and award-winning crime series Prime Suspect is to be remade for American audiences with the NBC network behind the remake. Prime Suspect originally ran for seven seasons between 1991 and 2006 on ITV1 and starred Helen Mirren as DCI Jane Tennison. The series was not only a critically and ratings success for ITV but also won several awards and was one of several drama’s that portrayed high-ranking women within the police force.  The remake is being worked on by Hank Steinberg for NBC and a two-hour pilot has reportedly been ordered although the lead character has yet to be cast.

 

 

The remake is part of a deal between NBC and ITV which saw American crime/legal series Law and Order remake for British audiences. Six episodes of Law and Order: UK aired on ITV earlier this year to good ratings and more episodes will follow this Autumn. ITV has also commissioned a second series of Law and Order. The deal between ITV and NBC will also see, over the next few years, two more American remakes of ITV formats.
