New Tricks Ends Well

BBCNew Tricks drew to a close of 7.7 million viewers last night while ITV’s The Bill continued its ratings recovery with 3.6 million viewers tuning in.

The sixth series of New Tricks ended impressively last night for BBC One with 7.7 million viewers tuning in. The audience peaked at one point with 7.9 million viewers but the average was 7.7 million. Although it’s not as high as the 8.1 million who tuned in for the opening instalment of the sixth season the figure is still very impressive and much higher than most dramas manage to attract.

At the same time The Bill continued its ratings recovery with 3.6 million viewers. The veteran police drama series had seen its ratings drop considerably since it moved to a 9pm slot with 1.5 million viewers abandoning the series since it moved. While 4.5 million saw the first episode of the revamped, later version ratings quickly dropped to around 3 million. However, last week ratings began to recover and this week was more of the same with a rise of half a million since the shows low of 3 million. It’s good news for the production team and for ITV who had admitted the ratings were lower than expected.

The autumn months are likely to see The Bill continue to recover lost ground as viewers opt to stay in instead of going-out as the evenings draw in and the weather turns for the worst.
