ITVITV has commissioned a modern reworking of the controversial 1970s LWT drama A Bouquet of Barbed Wire. The novel by Andrea Newman was first published in 1969 and was made into a drama for LWT in 1976 but was deeply controversial at the time because of its story of infidelity and incest. The drama starred Frank Finlay, Susan Penhaligon and James Aubrey and a sequel was produced in 1977.

ITV has commissioned a new version of the drama which will be adapted by Guy Andrews who wrote Lost In Austin for ITV and episodes of Prime Suspect. The drama will be produced by Mammoth Screen who also produced Lost in Austin for ITV and are behind the forthcoming remake of The Prisoner. Joint directors of Mammoth Screen Michelle Buck and Damien Timmer previously worked for LWT in the 1990s and early 2000’s before leaving the ITV Company and founding their own production company.

Waking the Dead actor Trevor Eve has been cast in the new version as Peter Manson. Filming is due to start in November with broadcast sometime next year.
