Word on the Web: Should Griffin have been on Question Time?
The much controversial edition of Question Time which featured BNP leader Nick Griffin, widely dubbed as a racist by the press, has now aired but the question still remains as to whether Griffin should have been on the political debate programme in the first place. Do you agree with the Welsh Secretary Peter Hain who argued that Nick Griffin shouldn’t have been invited onto Question Time or do you feel the BNP Leader was right to feature on the panel? What did you think of Griffin’s performance and those of the other panellists such as Bonnie Greer and Jack Straw? Do you feel the edition proved that the British public have no love for the BNP or do you feel it gave them a platform to pedal their controversial and racist views? “It is a tricky one because Nick Griffin has been voted in an MEP. If the BBC had suddenly cancelled his appearance he would have been seen as a martyr. I didn’t watch the programme but hopefully some people who were thinking perhaps of voting for them at the General Election will have been put off by Griffins comments.” – Jenny
“The panel had obviously done their research on vile Griffin and kept coming at him with quotation after quotation and every time he denied it all. He was exposed as being a nasty, vile, racist and homophobic who could not answer any of the questions put to him directly.” – Bart
“I’d said to various colleagues – and they agreed – that Nick Griffin was right to have been invited on to Question Time last night as we promote free speech in the UK. It doesn’t mean we enjoyed what he said or thought he was justified in saying it, but that he had a right to say it.” – Bryan
“The BBC Charter means they have to allow these people on if they’ve been publically voted. ITs the public’s fault if they vote for such people.” – Ellie
“He shouldn’t have been allowed on because even though the majority were repulsed by his views some amongst the audience would have agreed with him” – Aaron
“Griffin has exposed himself to millions of viewers as being a total idiot and that is the only reason he should have been allowed on the programme. To invite him back though would be a mistake. He’s had his fifteen minutes of public exposure now let him crawl back under a rock” – Matthew
“Well done to the panel and audience for taking him to task. He couldn’t defend his views and he denied everything put to him. He is a nasty, vile man and let’s hope we’ve seen the last of him on our televisions” – Leanne
“Anyone who claims the BNP are not racist are obviously deluded. He should not have been allowed on the programme. He’s a menace to society” – Stacey.
