EastEnders: E20 and Radio 1 join forces for theme tune re-mix competition

Next year EastEnders will launch its first online soap, E20, which will focus on several previously unseen characters. The soap has teamed up with BBC Radio One to offer listeners the chance to remix the iconic EastEnders theme tune for the new E20 title sequence.   

To coincide with EastEnders’ first online soap – EastEnders: E20 – the series has paired up with BBC Radio 1 to offer remixers, DJs and music fans a unique opportunity to become a part of EastEnders history by remixing the iconic theme tune for the E20 title sequence. The competition opened to applications on the EastEnders website – bbc.co.uk/eastenders – on Wednesday and will be officially launched by Radio 1 on the Annie Mac show tonight between 7.00 and 9.00pm.  The competition will also be championed by Friction on the BBC Asian Network plus Ras Kwame and Ace & Vis on BBC 1Xtra.

 EastEnders: E20 is part of a drive by the BBC to encourage and develop exciting new talent.

All the writers and cast – soon to be announced – are newcomers and this approach was also extended to the music production.

 The winning entrant’s remix will become the theme tune for EastEnders: E20 and the winner will also be invited to BBC Elstree for a day to work with the show’s music producer. There they will learn tips and tricks of the trade whilst sampling the atmosphere behind the scenes of EastEnders. The theme tune samples can be downloaded and remixes uploaded via the EastEnders website.
