Former Breakfast television presenter Annie Diamond has defended the struggling ITV programme Daybreak. While appearing on The Wright Stuff, on Channel Five, the former TVAM host defended the newly launched Daybreak which replaced GMTV on ITV1. Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles both currently front the new breakfast magazine programme but it has failed to impress viewers with ratings starting at 1 million for its launch but by last week it had fallen to just half a million viewers.

The declining ratings and the backlash against the programme from disgruntled GMTV viewers has lead to plenty of press speculation over the future of Daybreak. Some tabloids have speculated the show will be revamped while others claim ITV will offer Bleakley a new series to front. Appearing on today’s edition of The Wright Stuff presenter Anne Diamond, still remembered by millions for her years presenting TVAM, defended the shows performance. Diamond said that all programmes take a while to get settled – as did TVAM when it first launched and GMTV its successor – and that Chiles & Bleakley were not to blame for the shows current problems.
