Monday Ratings: Spooks bows out with over 5 million viewers

Richard ArmitageThe 9th season of spy drama Spooks concluded last night on BBC One with over 5 million viewers while Jack Duckworth’s death in Coronation Street saw the soap’s ratings top 11 million viewers.

 

BreakfastBreakfast on BBC One kicked off the new week strongly yesterday morning with 1.6 million viewers. The figure is up by 300,000 viewers from Friday’s edition of the morning news programme. Breakfast on Friday was disrupted by the strike at the corporation by members of the National Union of Journalists as stand-in presenter Gavin Grey fronted the show instead of Susanna Reed and Charlie Stayt who are the usual weekend presenters. Daybreak on ITV1 kicked off the week holding steady at 800,000 viewers – after weeks of decline the fact Daybreak’s ratings are now steady will doubtless please ITV bosses.

 

At 7pm on BBC One The One Show had 4.7 million viewers followed by Inside Out with 3.8 million viewers. Strictly Come Dancing – It Takes Two had 2.8 million viewers for BBC Two at 6.30pm while at 7pm 1.1 million viewers watched Michael Wood’s Story of England. Emmerdale started the new week on ITV1 with an impressive 8.4 million viewers at 7pm while the first visit to Weatherfield of the evening had 10.8 million viewers afterwards. At 6.30pm Hollyoaks surged to 1.5 million viewers as the blaze took hold in the Channel Four soap. At 7pm the news programme had 700,000 viewers.

 

At 8pm on BBC One EastEnders, which saw Glenda try to make Roxy face up to her money problems, had 9.8 million viewers while Panorama had 3.1 million viewers. University Challenge on BBC Two at 8pm was seen by 3 million viewers while Masterchef: The Professionals – Michael’s Classics had 2.3 million viewers. Wild Britain with Ray Mears pulled in 4.2 million viewers for ITV1 at 8pm. The second edition of Coronation Street at 8.30 surged to 11 million viewers as Jack Duckworth peacefully died in his arm-chair. In a touching scene actress Liz Dawn made a brief re-appearance as Vera Duckworth, reunited with her husband once more. Dispatches – Fashion’s Dirty Secrets on Channel Four at 8pm had 1.3 million viewers.

 

At 9pm the ninth series of Spooks ended as Lucas North (Richard Armitage) went on the run and Section D had to hunt him down. The spy drama bowed out with 5.4 million viewers but was beaten by the concluding part of The Little House on ITV1 which had 6.1 million viewers. Giles and Sue Live the Good Life on BBC Two at 9pm had 1.6 million viewers while Coppers on Channel Four had 3 million. Channel Five’s best rating of the evening was for Extreme Fishing with Robson Green at 9pm which had 1.5 million viewers. The Gadget Show at 8pm had 1.1 million viewers while Neighbours pulled in 1.4 million viewers at 5.30pm. Be A Star on Neighbours beforehand had 800,000 viewers while Home and Away at 6pm had 1 million viewers.
