Neighbours Lags In ‘Network 11’ Poll

Network 10’s new sister channel, Network 11, has launched its website revealing it’s purple ‘11’ logo. (Let’s hope this purple newbie is more successful than Daybreak) However the site also shows Australian audiences have put Neighbours in last place as the show they’re most likely to watch on the channel.
At the time of publishing the long running Australian serial had 10.25% of the viewer vote, with American drama series Dexter in third place with 15.97%. In second place, again another import, is family cartoon sitcom The Simpsons with 31.28% leaving 42.5% of those polled ready to enjoy Supernatural – the USA horror-drama series.
The poll is just a long line of recent ‘downers’ for the 25-year-old soap, which was devised by former ATV Network executive Reg Watson as an Australian (younger focused) version of Corornation Street way back in 1982. It wasn’t until 1985 that production company Grundy found a network for the show – Channel Seven – which axed it after 170 episodes. The show has remained with Network 10 ever since, but poor ratings have lead to the series, it seems, being shunted to the new digital Network 11.
While Neighbours suffers from low ratings in its native country it still pulls in decent figures around the world, including in the UK on Channel Five. Network 11 launches early next year.
