Monday Ratings: Whitechapel and Spooks Tie at 9pm

Overnight ratings reveal that dramas Whitechapel and Spooks tied at 9pm last night. Elsewhere it was another strong night for the soaps as Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale all attract big audiences.

 

 

The start of a new week saw Breakfast on BBC One attract 1.4 million viewers while over on ITV1 Daybreak had 700,000 viewers – recovering from last week’s new low of 630,000 viewers. At 7pm The One Show on BBC One started the new week with a strong 4.6 million viewers as Cliff Richard joined Alex Jones and Jason Manford. At 7.30pm on BBC One Inside Out was seen by 3.8 million viewers. On BBC Two at 6.30pm Strictly Come Dancing – It Takes Two with Claudia Winkleman had 2.5 million viewers. At 7pm, across the hour, Michael Wood’s Story of England had 1.2 million viewers. Emmerdale started the week extremely well with 7.6 million viewers – up 400,000 viewers on last Monday’s episode. At 7.30 the first episode of Coronation Street had 9.5 million viewers – up 600, 000 viewers for last week’s episode. At 6.30pm on Channel Four teen-soap Hollyoaks pulled in 1.2 million viewers followed by the Channel Four News at 7pm with 800,000 viewers.

 

At 8pm the start of a new week in Albert Square in EastEnders bought 9.3 million viewers to BBC One which placed it only narrowly behind rivals Coronation Street in terms of ratings. Panorama followed on BBC One at 8.30pm which had 2.7 million viewers. University Challenge on BBC One had 3.1 million viewers at 8pm with Masterchef: The Professionals at 8.30 rating slightly higher with 3.1 million viewers. At 8pm on ITV Wild Britain with Ray Mears had 3.9 million viewers which was up 200,000 viewers on last week. The second episode of Coronation Street lost half a million viewers though with 9 million viewers but the figure, while own on earlier in the evening, is still up slightly on last week. At 8pm on Channel Four Dispatches: How the Rich Beat the Taxman had 1.2 million viewers.

 

9pm saw a rare tie between BBC One and ITV1 with Spooks and Whitechapel both attracting 5.3 million viewers. The figure means that Spooks is up slightly on last week’s figure while Whitechapel was down slightly. Horizon: Is Seeing Believing on BBC Two had 2.5 million viewers at 9pm while Titanic: The Mission on Channel Four had 1.2 million viewers. Channel Five’s best ratings for the evening was for Australian soap Neighbours at 5.30pm which had 1.3 million viewers followed by Home and Away at 6pm with 1 million viewers. At 8pm The Gadget Show delivered 1.2 million viewers for Channel Five and ratings held steady at 9pm with Rory and Paddy’s Even Greater British Adventure also having 1.2 million viewers. Sitcom series The Inbetweeners ended its run on E4 with another impressive ratings high at 10pm with 2.6 million viewers but if figures from E4’s timeshift channel are added in the episode was seen by 3 million viewers – making it the most watched programme multi-channel wise.
