Actress Tisha Merry quits role as Coronation Street’s Steph Britton
Actress Tisha Merry has quit her role as Coronation Street’s Steph Britton who will bow out from the cobbles ‘over the New Year’, The Sun reports.
Bosses at the ITV saga are reportedly staying tight-lipped over the character’s exit but an article on The Sun’s website quotes an ‘insider’ who notes:
“Tish has had an amazing couple of years where she’s been at the fore of some of Corrie’s biggest storylines, but feels it’s now time for a change.”
In a somewhat low key debut in the soap, in February 2013, viewers were initially introduced to the character of Steph via her friend Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote). The role was soon increased with Steph taking on a job at the Bistro.
Her plots include becoming embroiled in a revenge porn scandal and her relationship with Andy Carver (Oliver Farnworth) which began while he was masquerading under a false identity as Michael Rodwell’s (Les Dennis) son.
Farnworth is also leaving the soap after a two year stint as Andy meaning there’s a possibility that Andy and Steph will depart the cobbles together. Andy is currently involved in a dramatic plot after attacking the villainous Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre).
