It’s been announced that Christine Bleakley will NOT return to BBC One’s magazine programme The One Show when it returns from a break next week. Bleakley will be replaced on the popular series by guest presenters until the corporation has found a new replacement. The BBC announced the news in a statement following speculation as to whether Bleakley would return to The One Show to see out the remainder of her contract. It was originally thought the presenter would return to the series after its break and remain with the programme until September when she would depart for GMTV.

However, the BBC has now confirmed Bleakley’s immediate departure. The presenter was the subject of a bidding war between the corporation and ITV who want her to head up their new revamped breakfast programme alongside Adrian Chiles. The corporation withdrew their offer for Bleakley because they felt the presenter was taking too long to choose. In September ITV will re-launch GMTV with a new name and brand new look with Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley hosting the series. Most of the GMTV team have quit or been axed ahead of the impending revamp and question marks hang over the remaining GMTV presenters – Lorriane Kelly has been tipped by the press as swapping GMTV for The One Show.

While comedian Jason Manford has been hired by the BBC to replace Chiles the corporation will use guest presenters to stand-in for Bleakley while it seeks a replacement for her. The BBC are planning a revamp of The One Show for the Autumn as well with
