BBC continues search for Bleakley replacement
The BBC is continuing its search to find a replacement for departed Christine Bleakley who has left The One Show to present new breakfast programme Daybreak for ITV1 when it launches in the Autumn.
The BBC is continuing its search to find a new female presenter for The One Show following the high profile exit of Christine Bleakley. The presenter was subject to a bidding war between the BBC and ITV but the corporation withdrew its offer as Bleakley dithered between the two. This prompted the presenter to sign up to ITV and she’ll now front Daybreak, the new breakfast programme, when it launches in the Autumn – she’ll host it alongside Adrian Chiles. So the search to find a replacement for Bleakley continues with names such as Tess Daly, Myleene Klass, Fern Britton and Gaby Roslin are tipped by the press.
According to The Sun the corporation has auditioned Charlotte Hawkins, of Sky News, and Liz Bonnin, from science series Bang Goes The Theory, and is planning to screen-test as many candidates as possible. The new presenter would not only have to work alongside new host Jason Manford but also Chris Evans – who will front the Friday edition of the show. Other names in the running for the presenting role include Melanie Sykes (who had her own show with Des O’Connor on ITV) and newsreader Kate Silverton.
