Hollyoaks axes plot at Denise Fergus’ request

Channel Four soap Hollyoaks has decided to drop a controversial storyline just days before scenes are due to air.

Hollyoaks, the Channel Four soap, has decided to drop a controversial storyline even though there are a matter of days before it’s due to air. The saga had come under fire for deciding to run a child-killer storyline which was compared to some as being based on the murder of toddler James Bulger.

Denise Fergus, the mother of the murdered toddler, was amongst those who spoke out against the soap’s proposed plot.

Denise attended a private screening of four of the episodes which contained the plot before meeting with the soap’s executive producer Tony Wood and Lime Picture’s Managing Director, Sean Marley, to express her concerns over the storyline and to discuss the similarities she felt it had with the murder of her son.

Lime Pictures, the producers of the soap, have agreed to drop the plot and ‘remould it’ with the help of Fergus.

Fergus gave an interview to Click Liverpool where she discussed the dangers of the storyline, the similarities she felt it had with the death of her son and also the treatment of the killers in the storyline which she felt was too sympathetic.
