Former The Bill actress blasts ITV bosses

Trudie Goodwin, who played June Ackland in ITV cop drama The Bill for 24 years, has blasted bosses at the network for killing the series off.

Goodwin was a guest on the Sky One chat show Angela and Friends when she spoke disparagingly of the series’ axe and changes in format over the years.

“They messed about with it too much. They moved it around the schedule. It didn’t end up being The Bill. It’s not the show’s fault, it’s the people who made it over the years.” – Trudie Goodwin  

The actress is not the first to speak out over the cancellation of the series and probably won’t be the last either. Senior figures within the drama community, across the spectrum, have also criticised the decision ITV’s decision to discontinue the saga arguing that it will have a lasting negative impact on continuing drama.

ITV announced last month it was axing The Bill because of low ratings following a revamp last year – the broadcaster has since shunted the drama to a non-publicised Tuesday evening slot to the fury of fans.
