Bloomberg return to Russia
Bloomberg Television correspondent Ryan Chilcote returns to Russia in another series which aims to show the real country.
Ryan’s Russia is an unique take on the world’s biggest country, returns for its second series this week. The first episode of the series airs on Thursday 26 April at 8pm BST. During the series, Ryan and the team will cross Russia’s nine time zones looking at a country most people still know so little about.
In the first episode, Ryan will travel to Sochi, one of Russia’s favourite summer resorts on the Black Sea and also the setting for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Billions of dollars have been invested in the coastal port and surrounding mountains in a bid to make the area – once Stalin’s favourite vacation spot – an all-year-round resort. Ryan will also meet the former KGB staffer who’s developed one of the world’s most popular computer anti-virus systems and is spearheading a whole new tech industry. The series will also examine the Russia which claims to be more religious than most European countries and the Russia which has finally taken the lead over the US in the space race.
There are six episodes in total with later editions covering everything from Cowboys, ballet dancers, ice hockey prodigies, training cosmonauts, television chefs and chess champions.
Prior to joining Bloomberg Television in 2007, Chilcote was a correspondent at CNN International. He has received several awards for his work including a New York Film Festival World Medal, a Clarion Award, a Golden Pen, a nomination at the Prix Bayeux Competition for War Correspondents, and an Emmy nomination for Best Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast.
