PM David Cameron announces inquiry into NOTW phone hacking allegations
Prime Minister David Cameron announced at PMQ’s today that a public inquiry will be set up in light of the recent allegations against News of the World.
It is claimed that the newspaper hacked into the phone of Milly Dowler, who was abducted and murdered in 2002. It has also been reported that the newspaper paid police officers for information – emails relating to this have been handed over by News International to the Met Police.
Opposition leader Ed Miliband said at PMQ’s that Rebekah Brooks should resign and asked the Prime Minister if he thinks that she should resign. David Cameron did not answer the question directly, but pointing out that there is an ongoing police inquiry.
