Lorraine Kelly urges Daybreak viewers to stick with the programme
The broacaster who started her breakfast television career in the 1980s has jumped to the defence of the latest ITV morning show.

Lorraine Kelly has urged viewers of Daybreak to stick with the new ITV breakfast programme and laid the blame for its problems at its content rather than new presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley.
Daybreak launched with over 1 million viewers but soon figures tumbled to just half a million and although they have risen since the tabloids are still full of stories about Daybreak’s failure and possible revamps to turn itself around. Lorraine Kelly presents a show immediately after Daybreak which often rates much higher and the presenter has urged viewers to ‘hang on in there’.

The presenter also reminded readers that when TV-am and GMTV launched they too suffered from low ratings to begin with but soon turned things around. GMTV on its launch tried to be a serious news magazine show – much like Daybreak is now – until it reverted back to the Good Morning Britain style format TV-am had devised and only then became a hit with viewers.

Former TV-am host Anne Diamond recently made similar comments on Channel Five’s panel show, The Wright Stuff. Diamond denied the problem with Daybreak was down to its presenters and remarked that all breakfast shows in the past took time to take off.
