Fire alarm takes The One Show off-air

A fire alarm during last night’s edition of The One Show forced the magazine programme to end early as the presenters and crew evacuated.

BBC One’s popular magazine programme The One Show was forced off the air earlier last night because of a fire alarm. The alarm went off twice during the programme and with the second sounding of the alarm the programme was forced to end early as the crew and presenters evacuated.

Matt Baker and Alex Jones were interviewing Tamsin Greig about her new Channel Four comedy Fright Night Dinner when the alarm sounded for the first time. Jones warned viewers that might have to switch to ‘VT’ if they were evacuated but the alarm then stopped. Shortly after the fire alarm statted again and Jones informed viewers they were going to evacuate.

With The One Show ending early the BBC filled the remaining time with Nigel Slater’s cookery programme, Simple Supers. According to Digital Spy presenter Alex Jones later reported on Twitter that the alarm was caused by someone trying to warn up a cup of tea in a microwave.
