Anna Massey dies aged 73
The actress Anna Massey has died at the age of 73, her agent has confirmed.
The award-winning actress was known for a string of high profile roles on stage, television and film. In 2004 Massey was awarded a CBE for her services to drama. One of her earliest television roles was in Gideon’s Way in 1958 – the actress went on to star in a number of high profile dramas and films.
Amongst her most famous roles were The Pallisers, Hotel du Lac, Mansfield Park, Frenzy and Rebecca. Fans of the The Darling Bud of May, the ITV drama series, will remember her of Miss Antionette Dupont – the owner of a hotel in France the Larkin family stayed in. Massey played Margaret Thatcher in the 2006 drama Pinochet in Suburbia. In more recent years the actress appeared in dramas such as Poirot, Kingdom, Midsomer Murders and Lewis. Her last on-screen role was in Jimmy McGovern’s BBC One daytime drama Moving On in 2010.
