CBS considers Bewitched revival
CBS is reportedly considering reviving the 1960s sitcom Bewitched.
According to Entertainment Weekly a reboot of the comedy is in the early stages of development at CBS.
The original series ran on ABC between 1964 and 1972 and starred Elizabeth Montgomery, Dick Young, Agnes Moorehead and David White. The show revolved around a witch who married a mortal man and tried to life a normal live as a housewife. It was followed by a short-lived spin-off in the late 1970s titled Tabitha.
In 2005, Bewitched was remade for Hollywood in a big-budget film starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell but was not well received by critics.
If Bewitched is revived and rebooted for CBS it follows in the footsteps of other programmes such as Charlie’s Angels and Hawaii Five-0 which have recently been successfully revived and retooled for the 21st century but Knight Rider and Bionic Woman but serve as reminders that not every revival is successful.
