Peter Roth: Fringe renewal still too early to call

FringePeter Roth, president of Warner Brothers Television, has said its still too early to tell whether or not Fox will renew its quirky cult drama Fringe.

The series, starring John Noble, Anna Trov and Joshua Jackson, is produced by Warner Bros TV for Fox. It is currently airing its fourth season in the notorious grave-yard slot on Friday evenings where it was moved to during its third series amidst much protest from fans who felt it would kill off the series. Despite a notable drop in ratings Fox still renewed Fringe for a fourth season but crucially ratings since its return have been down and already some are beginning to wonder if this will be the drama’s final season.

Well Peter Roth has spoken about the future of Fringe declaring ‘It’s too soon to tell‘ if this will indeed be the final season. He told TV Line ‘This is a show on Friday nights that audiences love to DVR, and as such we shoot up anywhere from 40 to 63 percent, when you calculate the Live+7. Hopefully that will be good enough for us to continue.’

It was a combination of Fringe‘s DVR figures and other underperforming shows that resulted in Fringe returning for a fourth season – will it be able to survive again on such figures alone? Only time will tell….
