Smash launches on NBC with 11 million viewers

NBCNBC‘s new musical drama Smash, starring Debra Messing and Jack Davenport, launched with an impressive 11 million viewers.

It was a good night for NBC on Monday evening as the broadcaster attracted big ratings for its musically orientated ratings. Talent contest with a twist, The Voice, pulled in 16 million viewers at 8pm with a 5.6 18-49 rating and continued at 9pm with 19 million viewers and a 7.3 18-49 rating. Elsewhere at 8pm CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother was seen by 9.9 million viewers with a 4.0 18-49 rating followed by 2 Broke Girls with 11.4 million viewers and a 4.3 rating. The Bachelor on ABC had 8 million viewers with a 2.5 rating while medical drama House on Fox had 7.1 million viewers with a 2.4 rating and teen drama Gossip Girl on The CW continued with 1.2 million viewers and a 0.6 18-49 rating.

At 9pm CBS comedy Two and a Half Men aired a new episode with 12.9 million viewers and a 4.2 18-49 rating followed by Mike & Molly with 11 million viewers and a 3.8 rating. The Bachelor on ABC continued across the hour with 8.4 million viewers and a 2.6 rating. Alcatraz on Fox saw a steep decline in its ratings with 6.7 million viewers and a 2.2 rating while CW drama Hart of Dixie had 1.5 million viewers and a 0.6 rating.

At 10pm was the season premier of Smash on NBC; its new musical drama starring Debra Messing, Jack Davenport and Anjelica Hudson. NBC had high hopes for Smash and it will unlikely be disappointment with its opening figure of 11.5 million viewers and a 3.8 18-49 rating. Castle on ABC meanwhile had 8.7 million viewers and a 2.0 rating while Hawaii Five-0 mustered 9.8 million viewers and had a 2.7 18-49 rating.
