EastEnders bus crash aftermath: Martin is freed while Whitney’s fate is unknown
Tonight’s (24 January) episode of the BBC One soap set up Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) as a potential fatality of the bus crash.
As the residents rallied to help those affected by the crash Martin Fowler (James Bye) was found in a bad way underneath the bus. With the relevant emergency services not yet on-site Max Branning (Jake Wood) led a community effort to raise the vehicle enough for Martin to be pulled from under it.
However, the sound of Whitney’s phone then led Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) to the horrifying realisation that Martin may not have been the only person trapped under there.
This ending to the episode has sparked a raft of theories across the internet with some fans certain that Whitney is either seriously injured or dead, while others are suggesting that Whitney may have her lost or phone or that her husband Lee could be in possession of it and the one under the bus.
Thursday’s (26 January) episode of the soap will reveal what happens next with Martin and is also expected to shed some light regarding Whitney’s fate.
The walking wounded such as Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) and Donna Yates (Lisa Hammond) aren’t out of the woods yet either; the soap previously killed off Emma Summerhayes (Anna Acton) who had walked away from being run over.
Meanwhile, EastEnders bosses have denied that the stunt was based on last December’s terrorist attack in Berlin in which a truck was driven through the Christmas market in Breitscheidplatz, killing 12 and leaving many others injured.
“EastEnders is a fictional drama and the crash in this week’s episodes was not based on any real-life event. We are always mindful of the content within our episodes.” A spokesperson noted.
