Corrie legend to be fired from Rovers

According to tabloid newspaper The Sun a Coronation Street legend is to be sacked from The Rovers. Contains mild spoilers.

Tabloid newspaper The Sun is reporting that Corrie legend Betty Williams [Betty Driver] will be sacked from The Rovers in a forthcoming storyline. However, despite the characters exit from behind the bar at the pub the character will still remain with the soap. According to the newspaper Betty is fired by new barmaid Poppy [Sophiya Haque] after she refuses to swap shifts.

Betty Williams has worked in The Rovers Return since first appearing in the Granada soap in 1969 – forty years ago. Betty’s tenure behind the bar has seen her work under landlords; Annie Walker, Billy Walker, Bet Lynch/Gilroy, Alec Gilroy, Vera and Jack Duckworth, Natalie Evans, Fred Elliot, Douggie Furguson and most recently Liz and Steve McDonald. Betty is most famous for her hot-pots which she’s been dishing up during her entire tenure at the pub but during a dispute with landlord Vera Duckworth she threatened to move to rival pub The Flying Horse.
