Five’s Minder Remake axed

FiveChannel Five’s revival of the popular 80s series Minder has been axed after one series due to low ratings. The axing is another blow to actor Shane Richie’s whose Sky One quiz-show, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, was axed last week.

FiveFive has decided not to renew its revived series of Minder for another series – according to The Mirror. Five revived the popular series with Shane Richie in the lead role and while the series launched with impressive figures for the channel, 2.4 million viewers, it couldn’t maintain its strong start. The ratings dropped by a million viewers over the following weeks.

“While Minder was well-received, new controller Richard Woolfe has a different vision for original, commissioned drama.” – Five spokesperson quoted in The Mirror

The axing of Minder is another blow to actor Shane Richie following the axing of his Sky One series, Don’t Forget the Lyrics. The musical karaoke show was fronted by Richie for Sky One but the series was axed last week alongside Sky’s revived Gladiators series.
