According to tabloid newspaper The Sun actress Laila Rouass will be amongst the new cast of Spooks when it returns to
BBC One later this year. The actress will be known to millions for her role of bonkers Amber Gates in ITV’s glitzy drama series Footballers Wives in which she appeared for two and half seasons also crossing over for several episodes of the drama’s spin-off, Extra Time. Rouass was also amongst the cast for the third season of ITV’s dino-drama Primeval and was one of the celebrity contestants on the most recent series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The tabloid reports that other new additions to the series will include Max Brown and Sophia Myles. Actress Sophia Myles appeared in the live-action Thunderbirds movie as Lady Penelope, vampire series Moonlight and also the well-received The Girl in the Fireplace episode of Doctor Who alongside David Tennant – the two were a couple for a while following her appearance. Actor Max Brown has most recently been seen in BBC One drama Mistresses and BBC Two’s historical romp The Tudors which will return for its fourth and final season later this year. The actor will be familiar to soap fans for his stints in Crossroads and Hollyoaks.
Spooks is due to return for its ninth season later this year but recent comments by Ben Stephenson, controller of drama at the BBC, hinted that long-running shows such as Spooks could be cancelled to make-way for newer dramas. Other shows thought to be under threat include Hustle, Waking the Dead and Silent Witness.
