Crossroads fans petition for more DVDs

Kings Oak VillageFans of the memorable Midlands soap Crossroads are petitioning Network DVD to release more classic episodes of the series. Fans wish to see more episodes of the infamous Motel based soap, which starred Noele Gordon as Crossroads owner Meg Richardson, released on DVD. Crossroads originally ran on ITV, produced by ATV and later Central, between 1964 until 1988 when Central Television decided to cancel the series.

In its heyday the soap had 18 million viewers per episode and practically brought Birmingham to an standstill in 1975 when thousands of fans gathered in the city centre to witness the wedding of Meg to Hugh [John Bentley]. In the 1960s when Thames Television in London decided to take the soap off the air then Prime Minister Harold Wilson was one of thousands who demanded the soap return to the airwaves – six months later Thames backed down and put the soap back on.

Noele GordonEpisodes of Crossroads have already been released on DVD to great success. Four “Best of” volumes were released before Network switched to “Archive” releases instead – DVDs containing the remaining episodes of the soap in order. Network DVD released 20 of the “Archive” releases which spanned episodes from 1966 until 1979 but stopped at the 20th “Archive” release – and now fans want more. In November to mark the 45th anniversary of the soap the “Archive” DVDs were re-released in one-box. Former Crossroads actress Susan Hanson, who played Diane Lawton in the soap, promoted the box-set with appearances on Loose Women and The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

A petition has been launched by Crossroads fans who want to see the continuation of the “Archive” DVDs. You can sign the petition by clicking here >>
