Waterloo Road: New Additions

 

Following yesterdays announcement that Robson Green and Mark Benton are to join the cast of Waterloo Road we take a closer look at the cast additions to the BBC One drama.

Angela GriffinThe fifth season of Waterloo Road saw the departures of several key characters from the BBC One drama series. Steph Haydock (Denise Welsh), Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin), Rachel (Eva Pope) and Michaela (Zaraah Abrahams) all bowed out of the series – which of course means space for some new additions! The producers of Waterloo Road have certainly been busy recruiting some familiar names for the next seasons of the series.

Peak PracticeAmanda Burton was one of the first major signings announced for the sixth season. Burton will join the cast as new head teacher Karen Fisher – replacing Rachel. The actress is known for her role of Sam Ryan in the BBC forensic series Silent Witness. Her other notable roles include Clare Blake in the ITV cop-drama The Commander and Doctor Beth Glover in Peak Practice – and Heather Huntingdon in Brookside during the 1980s. Linzey Cocker will play Jess, the daughter of Burton’s character. Cocker has appeared in Drop Dead Gorgeous, Conviction and City Lights/Northern Lights (alongside Robson Green & Mark Benton).

Tina O'BrienTina O’Brien is also amongst the new cast according to various sources – she’ll be playing Bex Fisher. O’Brien is known for her role of Sarah Louise Platt in Coronation Street, a role she played for several years during quite a few high-profile storylines. Britain’s Got Talent winner George Samson will also join the cast of Waterloo Road as sixth form student. Former EastEnders actor Martin Kemp will guest-star in the sixth season and it’s been confirmed that Denise Welsh will reprise her role of Steph for two episodes – in a guest-star capacity.

Wil Johnson has also joined the cast as a new teacher. The actor will be best known for his role of DS Spencer Jordon in all eight seasons – so far – of Waking the Dead. The actor is expected to continue in his role for the ninth and possible final season of the crime drama. Aside from Waking the Dead his other credits include Babyfather and Clocking Off. That brings us up to Robson Green and Mark Benton – the latest announced signings!

Robson GreenRobson Green’s most recent memorable role was as Dr. Tony Hill in the gritty ITV series, Wire in the Blood. He also recently fronted Extreme Fishing and Wild Swimming Adventure. He co-starred alongside Mark Benton in the ITV drama trilogy Christmas Lights, Northern Lights and City Lights. Further back his roles include stints on Casualty and Solider, Solider. Mark Benton, as previously stated, appeared alongside Green in the drama trilogy on ITV. His other credits include Land Girls, The Fixer, The Street, Early Doors and the Central comedy series Barbara.

The sixth season of Waterloo Road will launch on BBC One this autumn.
