Leighton Meester has revealed that she does plan to leave Gossip Girl but not just yet.

 

Leighton Meester has revealed that she does plan to leave Gossip Girl but not just yet. The actress plays ‘Queen Bee’ Blair Waldorf in The CW drama series about the lives of rich teenagers from New York’s Upper East Side. While promoting the forthcoming movie Country Strong the actress revealed she does plan to leave Gossip Girl but not for at least two years because ‘we’re under contract’, so she told E! Online.

 

Meester said that while she ‘obviously enjoys working on the show and living in New York’ she wants to explore other projects. The actress also said of Gossip Girl’s future that ‘I think there’s that old saying about wanting to go out on top’. Gossip Girl is currently in its fourth season on The CW and looks relatively secure in getting a renewal for a fifth season.

 

Earlier this year there were rumours that fellow GG actress Blake Lively, who plays Serena Van Der Woodson, was quitting the series and had asked producers to kill off her character. The rumours were denied by Josh Schwartz, executive producer of the series, but they do seem to add fuel to the fire that Gossip Girl’s end may be sooner rather than later.
