Vampire DiariesThe Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec has explained why The CW drama won’t be following the plot of the books in regards to the characters of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Katerina Graham). In the books by L. J Smith the two characters are in a relationship but Julie Plec has revealed that for the moment the two will remain frenemies rather than lovers.

“The fun we have with them right now is [going] from two people who have absolutely no respect, admiration or love for each other, whatsoever, but because they share a common goal and share common loves, they come together and are willing to put their differences aside and work together.” – Julie Plec in TV Guide

It was recently revealed that Plec and Kevin Williamson are developing a new supernatural companion series for The Vampire Diaries for broadcasters The CW. While there has been nothing officially commissioned yet by The CW the series would most likely be partnered up with The Vampire Diaries – should it been given the green light – and would feature a team who investigate paranormal events.
