The special, written by Steven Moffat and guest-starring Katherine Jenkins and Michael Gambon, had 10.3 million viewers. This figure will rise once more accurate figures are compiled however, as it stands at the moment Doctor Who was the second most popular programme of Christmas Day. Taking the festive crown once again was EastEnders which had 11.4 million viewers. Third place was taken by Come Fly With Me, the new airport based sitcom from Matt Lucas and David Walliams which was only narrowly behind Doctor Who.
