CBS Early Show kicks off 2011 with new team

CBS’ Early Show has started 2011 with a new presenting team which it hopes will draw in more viewers.

The Early Show, which airs weekdays on CBS returned yesterday with a new presenting team. Chris Wragge and Erica Hill are now the main anchors. They had previously presented the Saturday edition of the show. Former Evening News Weekend anchor Jeff Glor becomes news anchor and Marysol Castro is now the main weather presenter.

The new four piece emulates that of their rivals ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘Today’. Former host Julie Chen will also appear with special features and will be the only familiar face from the weekday version of the show. Former main anchor Harry Smith will now become the deputy to Katie Couric, who anchors the CBS Evening News.

The Early Show often finishes third in the morning ratings battle but in 2010 the show did see a slight rise in ratings. NBC’s Today show remains the most watched morning news programme and has done so since the 90’s.
