Waking the Dead star Sue Johnston is unhappy at the BBC’s decision to axe the drama. The cold-case drama returns on Sunday for its ninth and final season. Waking the Dead was created by Barbara Machin in 2000 and since then has clocked up eight seasons with the ninth being its final. In 2004 it won an International Emmy Award. In Waking the Dead Johnston plays psychological profiler Grace Foley alongside Trevor Eve, Tara Fitzgerald and Wil Johnson.
“I feel robbed. I’m very sad about it. It was a lovely job. I don’t quite get why it’s going.” – Sue Johnson quoted in The Sun
Waking the Dead was cancelled by the BBC last year after the corporations controller of drama, Ben Stephenson, warned some longer running dramas would be cancelled to make way for new dramas. Sunday evening drama Lark Rise to Candleford has since been cancelled after four years.
