NBC defends Law & Order: Los Angeles axe

NBC has defended its decision to axe Law & Order: Los Angeles after just one season.

NBC’s entertainment president Bob Greenblatt has explained why the latest Law & Order spin-off was cancelled. Law & Order: Los Angeles launched with 12 million viewers but as ratings started to slide away NBC decided to revamp the crime/legal drama. As the show went on an extended hiatus stars Skeet Ulrich, Regina Hall and Megan Boone were written out while Law & Order actress Alana la Garaza was added to the cast.

However, the revamp failed to gel with viewers and ratings dropped even further with many predicting the show would be cancelled. Over the weekend NBC confirmed it was indeed dropping Law & Order: Los Angeles.

“We tried to keep the show on the air, but we didn’t have the time period to bring it back if it isn’t going to show signs of growth” – Bob Greenblatt

The cancellation of the spin-off follows the demise of parent series Law & Order last year while fellow spin-off Criminal Intent has only been renewed for a final series. That means Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will be the only entry in the franchise remaining on American TV.
