Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures win at the Bafta Cymru Awards
Doctor Who and spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures, which starred the late Elisabeth Sladen, picked up several gongs at the 2011 Bafta Cymru Awards.
The ceremony was held at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay last night and it was a good night for Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Sherlock. The CBBC spin-off picked up the Children’s Programme award for Death of the Doctor. The two-part story guest starred Matt Smith as the Doctor and also saw Katy Manning reprise her role of Jo Grant for the firs time on-screen since leaving Doctor Who in 1973. The award for The Sarah Jane Adventures comes after the tragic death of lead actress Elisabeth Sladen who died earlier this year following a battle with cancer. A fifth season of the sci-fi had been ordered with some filming taking place; the BBC has confirmed the three stories on which production was completed will air later this year.
Doctor Who picked up an award for Tim Rickett’s work on A Christmas Carol and Mark Hutchingson’s light work on The Eleventh Hour. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ modern-day reworking of Sherlock Holmes also performed well picking up five awards including the Television Drama award.
