News International Confirms Brooks Not In Charge of Investigation

News International has confirmed, in the last few minutes, that Rebekah Brooks is no longer in charge of the company’s internal investigation regarding the News of the World.

James Murdoc has decided the investigation into alleged phone-hacking at the News of the World will now be headed by Joel Klein in New York. Klein is a former US deputy attorney general. The announcement comes a day after News International it announced it was closing down the News of the World following a series of damaging claims made about corruption and hacking on the paper.  This Sunday’s edition of the tabloid will be it’s “last”.

The announcement comes hours after Andy Coulson, former editor on the paper, was arrested by the police. There is now growing pressure on News International over the future of Rebekah Brooks with calls for her to step down. This latest move by the company could be seen as an attempt to calm the waters over Brooks future.
