Rupert Murdoch, along with his son James will join Rebekah Brooks next Tuesday at the select committee to give evidence. A summons was delivered in person to the Murdochs today after it was indicated that they planned not to show up next week. It has now been confirmed that they will be giving evidence in front of the select committee MP’s.

They will be questioned by a cross-party Culture, Media and Sport select committee at 2.30pm on Tuesday 19th July. In a statement today the committee laid out the reasons why all three should appear before them:  “The committee has made clear its view that all three should appear to account for the behaviour of News International and for previous statements made to the committee in Parliament, now acknowledged to be false.”

News Corporation announced yesterday that it was withdrawing its bid to take full control of BSkyB in light of the phone hacking scandal and pressure from all political parties.
