Riots in London boost BBC News ratings

BBC News{jcomments off}The rioting in London last night, and other UK cities such as Birmingham and Liverpool, saw ratings for BBC News’ 10pm bulletin reach its biggest audience of the year so far.

According to overnight figures 7.1 million viewers tuned in to BBC News at 10pm as a third night of rioting took place in the capital. Viewers tuned in for the latest news as buildings across London were looted and set alight and for the first time the violence spread to other cities such as Liverpool, Bristol and Birmingham. Ratings for the Sky and the BBC News Channels were also up as audiences tried to keep up-to-date with unfolding events. According to ratings data audiences for the BBC News Channel peaked at 2 million viewers while Sky News also saw ratings rise topping 1.5 million viewers.
