BBC confirm Christmas air date for Doctor Who

Matt SmithThe BBC has confirmed this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special will air in its traditional Christmas Day slot.

 

This year’s special; The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe will air on Christmas Day at 7pm confirming long standing rumours that it would do so. A Christmas Special of Doctor Who has aired on Christmas Day on BBC One since its the sci-fi’s revival in 2005 and has become a firm part of the BBC’s festive offerings.

 

Last year’s special, A Christmas Carol, was a Doctor Who take on the classic Charles Dickens story of the same name. This year’s special, given its title, is taking inspiration from C.S Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia range of books in particular the most famous of novels in the series; The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Confirmed guest stars for this year’s special include Claire Skinner, Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Alexander Armstrong who join lead star Matt Smith. Actress Karen Gillan has confirmed she will also appear in this year’s special as companion Amy Pond. You can watch a trailer for The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe below.
