Whitechapel beats Diamond Queen in ratings battle

WhitechapelITV drama Whitechapel pulled ahead of BBC One’s documentary series Diamond Queen which examines the reign of Queen Elisabeth II.

In a reversal of fortunes from last week Whitechapel moved ahead while Diamond Queen slipped back at 9pm on Monday evening. The third season of the ITV drama continued last night with 5.8 million viewers – a rise on the 5.3 million viewers who tuned in last week but still down on the 6.2 who watched the season premier. Meanwhile the second part of Diamond Queen, fronted by Andrew Marr, lost 700,000 viewers with 5.5 million viewers returning.

Elsewhere last night the sharp ratings decline of Skins continued as the teen drama drew just 350,000 viewers to E4 at 10pm meaning the future of the series beyond its current sixth season is now in doubt.
