Lucy Lawless arrested in Greenpeace protest

Lucy Lawless in Battlestar Galactica Lucy Lawless has been arrested for taking part in a Greenpeace protest off the coast of New Zealand.

It was reported last week that Lucy Lawless had joined other Greenpeace activists in boarding and occupying an oil-drilling ship off the coast of New Zealand which was bound for Alaska. The protest was against oil companies drilling in the Artic where the melting ice sheets have opened up new areas for the relentless search for new sources of fossil fuels to pollute the atmosphere with.

When boarding the ship last week Lawless said ‘The fact that now the major oil companies are spearheading this mad oil dash to the Arctic, one of the most pristine environments left on the planet, it’s the definition of madness. They think the melting ice caps is not a warning to humanity about climate change—they think it’s an invitation. This is unacceptable. We cannot allow our grandchildren to grow up with a terrible burden.’

It has now been reported that police in New Zealand have boarded the ship and arrested Lawless along with at least five other Greenpeace activists; no charges have yet been filed. Lawless is known for a wide variety of genre roles such as the title role in Xena: Warrior Princess ,as the troubled Cylon D’Anna in Battlestar Galactica and more recently as Lucretia in the Spartacus franchise.
