Channel 4 News team arrested and deported from Bahrain

Foreign Affairs Correspondent Jonathan Miller and his team were arrested yesterday evening.

Miller, cameraman Joe Sheffer, and producer Dave Fuller were in Bahrain trying to film a demonstration when officials noticed them and then a police chase ensued. They gained entry into the country posing as tourists.

The decision for F1 to hold the Grand Prix in Bahrain sparked criticism due to the on-going battle between the government of Bahrain and the people over changes of rule.

“We are pleased to confirm that our team is safe and on their way back to the UK. We also have confirmation that the team’s driver – who they saw assaulted by Bahraini authorities, and human rights activist, Dr Ala’a Shehabi, have also been released.”

Sky News were also refused accreditation for its news journalists.
