Matt Groening brings adult animated comedy Disenchantment to Netflix

Netflix, the internet TV network, has ordered twenty episodes of Disenchantment, an adult animated comedy fantasy series from the mind of Matt Groening.

“Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.” – Matt Groening

In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

The series will feature the voice talents of Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon and Eric Andre, along with John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery. Animation is being done by Rough Draft Studios who gave television audiences the visuals in Futurama.

Matt Groening is best known as a cartoonist, writer, producer, animator, and voice actor. He is the creator of the comic strip Life in Hell (1977–2012) and the television series The Simpsons (1989–present) and Futurama (1999–2003, 2008–2013). The Simpsons has gone on to become the longest-running stateside primetime-television series in history, as well as the longest-running animated series and sitcom.

Disenchantment will premiere on Netflix ten episodes at a time, starting in 2018 the company today (July 25th) revealed.

“Matt Groening’s brilliant work has resonated with generations around the world and we couldn’t be happier to work with him on Disenchantment.
